Last week JT of Good Life brought Japan's human beatbox Afra over for two shows at the Lotus Soundbar. It was my first time at the Lotus Soundbar and meeting Afra. Big Mox was also there to jam on the mic with Afra. For the longest I've heard many good stories of Afra (such as him visiting the beatbox community in New York organized by Kid Lucky's Beatboxer Entertainment), and I knew of Afra as the most known/top beatboxer from Japan. Afra, hit me up the next time you're in town.
Next week Friday (January 29th) at the Mercury Bar Cherry Blossom Cabaret presents Aloha For Haiti. 100% of the proceeds to benefit Doctors Without Borders (http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org), an international medical humanitarian organization that provides aid in
nearly 60 countries to people whose survival is threatened by violence,
neglect, or catastrophe. Taking a fun and funny approach to
fundraising, “Aloha for Haiti” will feature performances from an
all-star lineup from Honolulu’s art…
"Jason Tom is intent on helping to transform beatboxing from a novelty
to a respectable art form. Along with putting on beatboxing workshops
and performances at local high schools, he plans to organize a
gathering for local beatboxers or anyone interested in learning the
craft." -Tracy Chan Honolulu Advertiser - TGIF - Metromix (cover story) Originally published for print: October 2-8, 2009

I will be opening up for the human sound-effects machine/comedian Michael Winslow on Wednesday, December 30th (next week) at Pipeline Cafe. Real stoked. I grew up watching the Police Academy movies.
This TEDTalks' video was filmed on February 2003 (though posted on October 2008), filmed more than a year before I started performing as a beatboxer. Now when I watch it again I find it to be inspiring hearing his snares, vocal turntable techniques, and style. He is quite original.
On May 14, 2009 my general manager sent me this video of James "AudioPoet" Burchfield. Prior to that I googled "beatbox poet" since I find myself mostly connected with the Hawaiʻi poetry scene (as opposed to …
I performed for Emergeʻs "5 Minutes of Fame" event at the Word of Life Christian Center (WOLCC) this past Friday, and I had a good time. Of my 5 years of live beatbox performing experience I personally consider WOLCC to have the best live sound system and stage on the island.
I performed...
- Romans 12:2 (a scripture from the Holy Bible NIV)
- Billie Jean by Michael Jackson (with the dance intro, vocals, and the moonwalk)
- Listen Carefully by Jason Tom (one of my originals with vocal…
*Scans of the July 12th event program for the Movement
Last month (July 12th) I opened up for America's Best Dance Crew (ABDC) Quest Crew for the Movement at the McKinley High School Auditorium.
I'm also an alumnus of McKinley High School, and I was featured in McKinley High School's student newspaper the Pinion (the final issue for the 2008-2009 school year) less than a month prior. It was fun performing in front of a crowd expecting to see a full on …

I will also be joined by a teen group from Mililani High School TreeTop Romantics and other surprise guests.
Last Friday and Saturday United Chinese Coalition hosted its first week of the 2009 Chinese New Year Festival at the Chinatown Cultural Plaza. I performed two sets Friday night. My special guest Joel Spiral joined me for my second set performance to share the Chinese legend of the Ox.
This week Friday and Saturday will be the second week of the 2009 Chinese New Year Festival. I'm expected to perform on both nights. Joel Spiral will join me again for Friday, and I am working to bring another surp…
I was browsing the web, and found out only today that this is uploaded:
That's me performing at the Word of Life talent contest on October 2008, and following this performance I held a beatbox workshop at Word of Life Academy. I was invited to Word of Life for these specific events by different parties, and knew of the beatbox workshop first. This video showcases my first time at Word of Life, and I now consider Word of Life my home church. Praise the Lord!
This past Art After Dark "Hawai`i Ink" event on August 29th, 2008 at the Honolulu Academy of Arts featured Hawaiian slack key guitar master Makana. This event had an amazing turnout, especially those who came to see Makana, and I rock it out. People stood, and even sat on beach mats layering the wet grass from earlier poured rain just to experience the evening with us on that Central Court stage. MELE were also on hand to document my live moment with Makana as part of a reality series project st…
Upcoming event Art After Dark on August 29th at the Honolulu Academy of Arts from 6:00PM to 9:00PM. It's free to academy members (I'm not a member), $10 to non-members (refunded if you join that night). I encourage all of my supporters who has or has never seen me perform live before to come. Yes I will perform as a featured guest, but there's more!
The theme is "Hawaii Ink" for Art After Dark, and the headline act is Hawaiian slack key guitar master Makana. I will be joining Makana, and his band…
Mark your calendars, this Wednesday, August 27th I will MC and perform at the MELE outdoor "Back to School" concert from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at Honolulu Community College. Also featured will be local ska punk reggae rock band Pimpbot, and more. Admission is free, and all ages welcomed!
Also, I've recently been offered through e-mail to perform three five-minute routines on the same date between 11:30AM to 12:30PM at another location for a promotional event, but can't do it since it falls within the…
Rocket scientists recently found out that if you were to mix Jason Tom beatboxing with Pimpbot, then the "t" (from "bot") tilts to the left, and you get Pimpbox. Okay, that ain't true about the rocket science part, but you should get the idea at the very least.

So what have I been up to lately? Spent Forth of July with Janel, Ellice, new fans, and friends. Several weeks back I had dinner with Roger who've made a flight to Honolulu, who is responsible for digitally recording my most popular YouTube video to date (the one with ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro). I've tweaked around this website a bit, and am getting back into the groove of practicing my craft to enhance techniques. Also, I'm AsianAve's Member of the Day for the 36th consecutive day.
